Pangam

Today we had to make some pangrams. Pangrams are a sentence that has all letters of the alphabet in it.
Our task today was to create our own using this famous example The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

Our second goal is to beat the record of 32 letters that  The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog has.

I think that we did rather well at creating one here it is...

Monkeys can eat mosquitos while playing the xylophone dumbly saying verbs. It has 61 letters I think that we did rather well.

Shrinkage

WALT: To summarize a story and identify the choices the charter could make.

Shrinkage is about a girl called Pippa. She wants to be in the cool girls group with their leader Kylie. The entrance test is to steel something out of the shop. Pippia feels like it is not the right thing to do but she wants to be in that popular group with Kylie.

Pippa finds a small lip gloss container she feels better doing it now that she know that it is something she will never use she hates the scented smell of fake cherry. the shopkeeper has her back to Pippa now is her chance she leaves the shop and tries to find Kylie outside the shop window. Thats strange Pippa frowned they were here a second ago.

Suddenly a hand grasped her shoulder it was to big to be Kylie's she looked around there was a man standing there he dragged her back into the shop Pippa dropped the lip gloss. "

I hear that you stole some lip gloss from my shop" The shopkeeper said sternly...

Pippa that some choices to make

She could... Pull out at last minute
She could... Tell the shopkeeper what the popular kids were doing.
She could...Secretly pay for it.
She could...Say no and make some other friends Kylie would never be a prober friend because you had  to do a test to "Get in."
She did... follow through with the dare
She did... Steel the lip gloss.

Plz Leave me a comment on what you think I could add in the summery. 💜 😃

Set smart goals term 2

In class we have been looking over our reports and seeing what we need to work on over term 3. We found these goals in our reports then put into our own words.

WALT: To set smart goals

My writing goal is to...
The reason I have decided to focus on this goal is because
I will accomplish my goal by... My next step is to link ideas within and between paragraphs. I want to work on this goal over the holidays and by mid term I should have accomplished it. I think that this goal is relabel for I can see that It is one of the missing pieces in my writing.

My reading goal is to...
The reason I have decided to focus on this goal is because
I will accomplish my goal by... My next step is to draw on my natural curiosity and see things from others view across a rage of genre. I can accomplish this in a time frame of through the holidays and by mid term be perfect at it. I can see this is something new for me so it may take that half a term to get really good at it.

My maths goal is to...
The reason I have decided to focus on this goal is because
I will accomplish my goal by... My goal is to chose the right strategy to use at the the time. I think that this is a realistic goal for me because I have to ask a buddy normally or the teacher. I want to work one this through the holidays and come back to school with a good idea of when to use what strategy.

Final copy

Here is my final draft I hope you enjoy it!

SC: To use short sentences to create suspense.

Abseiling!!!

For weeks before camp everyone talked about abseiling. At first I thought it was a type of sailing a little boat! Yay! I like water, and boats. I might be an expert. Then I noticed on our camp packing list...a bike helmet...for abseiling...hang on! My group decided to research abseiling and guess what...it means walking backwards down a HUGE crumbling rock face with just a tiny thin rope between you and certain death falling all the way to the ground! Actually our research assured us it was safe, there would be an instructor and the ropes they use could hold the weight of a fully grown african elephant. Hmm, so it was all perfectly safe. I was not convinced.

The day of camp finally arrived. My tummy churned with butterflies. Some kids were worried about being away from home, not me! All I could think about was dropping ourselves over some gigantic rock face somewhere!

As the bus rolled through the gates to Highland Home my eyes widened. A huge blanket of grass emerged to our left. On the right a long gravel road twisted down a hill and the top of a huge wooden tower loomed high in the air. My tummy flip flopped, I wonder what that was for?

Soon we were off the bus and strolling around the grounds on our tour.
We settled into camp and there were lots of fun activities. Always at the back of my mind though was that tiny string thing hanging off that huge rock face!

Night came and the last thing I saw before I ducked into my cabin was that huge wall glooming over Highland home watching us like a tiger silently stalking his prey.

Morning came. I checked the timetable.

8. Abseiling

I could not believe it!? How could we do this if there was no abseiling cliff face? Oh well. First up for my group was rock climbing. Ants the instructor went though all the stuff we needed to know. All of a sudden it dawned on me that the wall was a huge, and I mean HUGE cube so that means... AHHH THE ABSEILING IS ON THE OTHER SIDE!!!!!!!

At breakfast the next morning everyone talked about how they are scared of heights. They asked me if I was. I don’t know? Maybe I should be scared of heights.? I tried to remember our next activity um.... was it slip and slide? No. Rock climbing? No. Photo diary. UH NO. ABSEILING! It all went dark...

I found myself at the foot of the ‘tower of death’ it loomed in the air taller than the Eiffel Tower. We put on harnesses (that kind of gave me a wedgie)! Soon I was called up the ladders. Had anyone checked these things?! They were rusty and old. Rickety like a car with loose screws. They wobbled and wobbled but I made it up. When I reached the top Ants clipped me up. Everything became still and silent. All happiness and light drained away. I tore my gaze from my shoes and slowly and reached for the bar grasped it and looked up. Here we go.

My heart was pounding, bang bang bang it went. Could everyone hear it.?The sound of it wound me up even more. I started walking down the wall, suddenly my footing slipped. Strike one. I clutched the rope in terror. I looked down at the scene below, the rest of my group were miniature mice. Strike two. As I neared half way a strange sensation began flowing over me. It was confidence! I felt way better, I even started doing bounces! I could not believe it, it was actually fun! When I got to the bottom I felt incredibly relieved.  What a great experience. I felt on top of the world!

Camp Writing 3rd draft

This is my 3rd attempt to edit this piece of writing. How do think that I am going?

For weeks before camp everyone had been talked ing about the abseiling. At first I thought it was a type of sailing a little boat! Yay! I like water, and boats. I might be an expert. Then I noticed on our camp packing list...a bike helmet...for abseiling...hang on! I was not convinced.

The day of camp finally arrived. My tummy churned with butterflies. Some kids were worried about being away from home, not me! All I could think about was the challenge we were going to face dropping ourselves over some gigantic rock face somewhere!

As the bus rolled through the gates to Highland Home my eyes widened. A huge blanket of grassy field emerged to our left. On the right a long gravel road twisted down a hill and the top of a huge wooden tower loomed high in the air. My tummy flip flopped, I wonder what that was for?

We settled into camp and there were lots of fun activities. Always at the back of my mind though was that tiny string thing hanging off that that... It trailed on. huge rock face!

After five minutes of screaming in my head  staring at the monster wall I was attached to a rope and started to rock climb. For some reason climbing up did not bother me, it was fun.  Half way up the wall all of the scared thoughts thumped and then tumbled out of my head. Maybe I’d be fine with abseiling after all?

At breakfast the next morning everyone talked about how they are scared of heights. They asked me if I was. I don’t know? Maybe I should be scared of heights.? I tried to remember our next thing activity um.... was it slip and slide? No. Rock climbing? No. Photo diary. UH NO. ABSEILING! It all went dark...

I found myself at the foot of the ‘tower of death’ it loomed in the air taller than the Eiffel Tower. We had put on harnesses (that kind of gave me a wedgie)! Soon I was called up the ladders. I gulped then forced my frozen body forwards. Here we go.

I clutched the rope tightly in terror. I looked down at the scene below, the rest of my group were miniature mice. Strike two. When I reached half way it was I felt way better I even started doing bounces! I can not believe it, it was g actually fun! When I got to the bottom I felt incredibly relieved.  What a great experience. I felt on top of the world!

I am glad that I tried!

Writing 2nd draft

Here is my second draft of my recount. I changed it and made it more focused on one thing. Please feel free to leave a comment.

For weeks before camp everyone had been talking about the abseiling. At first I thought it was a type of sailing a little boat! Yay I like water, and boats I might be an expert. Then I noticed on our camp packing list...a bike helmet...for abseiling...hang on! I was not convinced.

The day of camp finally arrived. My tummy was churning with butterflies. Some kids were worried about being away from home, not me! All I could think about was the challenge we were going to face dropping ourselves over some gigantic rock face somewhere!

As the bus rolled through the gates to Highland Home my eyes widened. A huge grassy field emerged to our left. On the right a long gravel road twisted down a hill and the top of a huge wooden tower loomed high in the air. My tummy flip flopped, I wonder what that was for?

Morning came I checked the timetable

8 Abseiling

I could not believe it! How could we do this if there was no abseiling wall?
Oh well. Next was rock climbing. Ants the instructor went though all the stuff we needed to know then my eyes clicked.

While I was waiting I figured that the wall was a huge I mean HUGE cube so that means... AHHH THE ABSEILING IS ON THE OTHER SIDE!!!!!!!

After five minutes of screaming in my head  steering at the monster wall I was attached to a rope and started to rock climb. At half way all these thoughts tumbled out of my head. But they will be back again...tomorrow.

At breakfast everyone talked about how they are scared of heights they asked me. I do not know maybe I should be scared of heights. I tried to remember our next thing activity um.... was it slip and slide? No. Rock climbing? No. Photo diary. UH NO. ABSEILING! It all went dark...

Soon I was called up the ladders. They were rusty and old. Rickety like a car with a lose screw. They wobbled and wobbled. Soon I reached the top Ants clipped me up. Grace swallowed. It went cold. I still just looked at the ground slowly I reached for the bar grasped it and looked up.

It was bright again all happy the sun had chose to brighten. This made me happy. I was not afraid of heights. Now it was my turn.

All the happiness and light drained away. I stood on the edge clutching the bar. my heart pounding. bang bang bang it went the sound of it wound me up more. Even more dark I started waking down the wall and a black mat as soon as that mat finished and I was on wood my footing slipped. Strike one. I clutched the rope tightly in terror. I looked down strike two!

Learning partner comment: I like the way you have used personification.
I think that you could work on adverbs and metaphors.

Writing

Yay we have stared writing! We are learning to look back and edit. The purpose of this post is to show you my first draft. Later on there will be more added. This is so that I can see how far this writing has taken me. Here is my walt criteria and writing!

As the bus strolled through the Highland Home gates my eyes widened. A huge grassy field emerged to our right a long gravel road on the left with the top of the tower greeting me I wonder what it was for. I stood up on my seat looking out at the beautiful sight!  I felt as though I could stay here forever.

Soon we were off the bus and rolling around the grounds on our tour. At the end we saw a small fire pit with a large rusty concrete circle around it. Next was the basketball court it was a large indoor place with no carpet or lines just two hoops and gear. It looked a bit like a large house from the outside.

After that we were taken to or cabins. Our bunk group was called up first we opened the curtains to find a small tidy cabin with 8 beds 4 top bunks and 4 bottom bunks. We unpacked. I was on the first bottom right.

After that we ate lunch and had our 2nd play on the grounds.
I found a swing and settled.

Suddenly it was time for dinner we put our shoes on and walked to the dining hall in cabin groups. I found a table and we all sat there. We waited and talked about all our fun and what tomorrow would be like.

Soon our table was called up. We left our seats and went up to see what was for dinner. Soon we all new the drill!

You take your plate and chose witch side you want take they have the same food.

“I wonder what will happen at the glow worms tonight” I translated in my head as I sat down.

“What will we need for glow worms?” Grace asks Emma. Emma shrugs “A torch warm cloths and a winter hat perhaps?” Secretly I am thinking that Emma is right! But I can tell from the look and Graces face that she douse not agree!

I like the way you have used inner thoughts.

You could work on similes you do not have any.

Swimming Sports Recount.

Swimming Sports

The Swimming Sports is one of Russell St School’s favourite events. This year, only the senior school went to the Lido for swimming sports because last year the juniors missed out because we had a tight time schedule. But before I can tell you that, I have to tell you about when I got to school. When I got to school I felt something tingling inside me. I knew what it was, it was swimming sports. I love swimming sports but it still makes me nervous.

With my feelings on board from the morning, my class clambered onto the bus. We all sat next to our friends. As we set off the bus made funny noises as we started. Soon we got there. It was not a long trip but when you are nervous it always seems longer. So long that it felt like a week to get there.

We had to choose which races we wanted to enter. Why do we enter? We enter so we can do an activity at swimming sports and compete in our year groups. I entered all of the 25m lengths which were freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. There were also width races if you were not so confident in the pool. In some of the width races you could use flutter boards.

It was very loud around the pool. Everyone was cheering for their friends, their houses and for the people in the widths. Nick was announcing on the microphone and David was in charge of the whistle and hooter at the starting line.

Next, the first of the length races were held. All the confident Year 6 girls did freestyle. “BEEP” David blew the whistle and everyone went silent. “Take your marks get set..” David honked the horn. The year 6 girls set off and some of them dived and some were in the pool to start. Wow, they looked fast as if they had practiced a lot.The year 6 girls were so speedy it took no time at all. Soon, the places 1st 2nd 3rd were taken. The kids were sprinting through the water so fast that it was hard to tell who won. In fact so hard they had to use an ipad to see who won it!!!

After year 6’s races we had the year 5 girls then boys.

I managed to get into the finals for all of my races. It was now.... time for my freestyle final. I was so nervous and excited at the same time. I felt the butterflies were jumping around in my tummy. The year 4’s stood one step away from the diving board, then David blew the whistle. I got on the diving board, I was going to dive into the pool. Davis said, “Take your marks, get set... HONK.”  I dived in and the coldish water splashed. It starting with my head and went down to my toes. I kicked as hard as I could and I started my arms in freestyle with extra power than normal. I felt like I was a fast dolphin slithering along the top of the water. I had nearly reached the end. This made me go even faster. When I reached the end I was handed a second place rod! I was proud but I still hoped I could do even better in my next race.

My second final was backstroke. We had the same waiting process and then it was my backstroke. This time I started in the water holding on to the bar on the diving board. I left my toes just under the water scrunching my knees. I heard the horn go and threw my arms backwards and my head followed. Then I started my kick followed closely by my arms. I came to a tie with Georgia from my class. In the end I got 3rd and this is better than I had expected, considering I’m not the best at backstroke.

My last final was breaststroke, this is my favourite because I’m good at it. We had a bit of time to have a snack and dry off before it was breaststroke finals. I was not feeling as nervous by now because I had already done lots of races and this was my favourite stroke. I decided to dive in again because this helps me get further which gives me a head start.  David blew the horn “HONK” and once again, I had the feeling of the graceful splash on my face and the coldish water on my body. This time I was at the front and, yes, I won it!

I really enjoyed the whole day but I especially loved this moment and wish it would stay forever and ever. This was the most awesome day and the busiest day at the Lido!

However, this was not the end of my day as we had not had lunch yet. We went to the esplanade and sat down with our friends for lunch. We walked across a rocky path to get there and it was a long walk but soon we were sitting down on some nice fluffy grass. I sat next to my friends and we ate our lunch. We played silly hand games and had some fun until James got our attention by blowing the horn. We all stopped and all the seniors went silent as he talked to us for a moment saying, “When I blow the horn in half an hour, you all need to sit back down so that we are not late for the buses.”

I set off with my BFF behind me we went to the bars we climbed all over them then we went to the flying fox all the seniors were lined up for this it took a while to get to the front  of the line with my friend Grace and Georgia. After we had all had a turn the horn went we skipped happily back to our bags and did the long trip back to the buses. Georgia and I sat together on the bus on the way back to school!!! When we got to school the 4.5 packed up and Stephen our class teacher said good afternoon and then he said, “I hope you all had a great day.” Then he said we could go home.

I was very proud of myself for competing in the length races. It was a stupendous day! And I think we all had the best trip of the year.

My weekend

In the weekend I took my pony Oscar to a pony club show in Foxton. I did some flat work classes first. I got a first place (red ribbon) in turn out (best presented) where the judge looks at how clean your pony and tack is and how tidy and clean you are. I was very proud of this ribbon because I washed and brushed Oscar and combed his mane and tail by myself. The next class was best rider 8 years and under, I won that too! I also got 3rd in best pony club pony.

Next was the games, my pony is not always good at games, he can get a bit excited and it often turns out a lot like this picture!  >>>>>

But, instead of like that it was more like this <<<<< We won the potato race and we almost won the lolly race and after that I did some jumping.  I also learned today that Mark Todd learned to ride on a little naughty pony he had when he was little.
