Te Ahu a Turanga Noho Marae

Description: In week 7, we had an overnight stay at the local Marae in Woodville. We were immersed in Maori culture and participated in a range of activities. We set two goals to focus on during our stay.

Big Idea:

1.  Did you achieve your goals?  How do you know?
Yes because my job was to help cook dinner and I think that I did really well because everyone loved the meal.

2.  What are you most proud of from the marae stay and why?
I am proud of how well I went on the gorge walk and how I helped others.

3.  What challenged you the most and why?
The storytelling because I was really nervous about forgetting it or not doing it right.

Triangles

Description: We have been learning about Geometry for Maths for the past few weeks. We looked at all the different types of shapes and in particular triangles. We have learnt that there are 4 different types of triangles and we created something to share our understanding about each of them.

Big idea:

Sides Angles

Scalene = 0 0

Isosceles = 2 2

Equilateral = 3 3

Right angle = 0 1: 90˚

My video: Here is the video I created with Georgia. We hope you learn from it!

Evaluation: I think that we did a great job at understanding the triangles and there sides and angles.
Next time I would add a bit more detail but other than that I think that we did a great job.

Feedback and feedforward: I love the way you present the different triangles. Maybe next time you could make your drawings a bit bigger. Ana

Marae goals

Description:
Tomorrow we are going to the Marae and we decide to make some goals for ourselves.

My goals are to...

Do all of my jobs to the best of my ability.

Make sure that I am focused and use expression while telling my story at storytelling time.

Lines of symmetry

Purpose: To find a line of symmetry in every letter of the alphabet!

Description: We found out that 15 upper case letters had lines of symmetry and only 8 lowercase! here is our working out.

Storytelling

Purpose: create a story to share orally
Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7.

Big idea: I think that I could add a bit more detail in my drawings so that I know what is actually happening in the pictures to make the story similar.

Evaluation:
I think that next time I could use more actions and capture the audience a bit more. Other than that I think that I did a rather good job and I made sure that I put myself in the pit.

My Reading Goal

Description: We did a star test last week. We did this test to help us find our reading goal.

After going back through my test I have decided that my goal for this term it to...

Make sure that I am jotting down the words that I don't know into a notebook so that I can come back to then later. I need to do this because often I just carry on. This is a goal that I will most likely carry on for a year because if I stop after this term the same thing will happen again so I will make this goal an everyday thing and carry on with other goals.
