Term 2 reflection

My end of term reflection

WALT: evaluate our learning honestly

What is an effective learner?
I think that an effective learner is some one who is WILLING to learn  more who listens to not only the teacher but peers too. I think that be be an effective learn you must want to be an effective learner.

What were the highlights for this term? Why?
I really enjoyed inter school X country it was a big highlight for me first time at inter school ever for any sports and I loved it. I liked it because there are so many different strategies you have to use to get through the course.

What were your greatest challenges this term?
 Why?
My Maths. It has never been my strong point or what I enjoy but I am getting better and I am enjoying it more and learning way more then what I had at the start of the term after slacking off in the holidays! I will be sure not to do that this holidays!

How are you going towards acting with integrity? Why?  How could you improve?
I am getting better at showing integrity I pick up pens off the ground even if they are not mine I never change my colour on the evidence of learning sheet and then not own up to it. I could pick up more pens and stuff because I do sometimes just walk past them and I could be even more honest with what I do.

What are your goals in our learner disposition wall?  Where to next?

I am still really working hard to get myself to self Agency. I find that you can’t slack off as soon as you get on self Agency you have to keep working on it or you can move down. So I want to not rush up to self Agency as I am not ready yet but I might be soon.

Grasshopper Tennis

WALT: improve our small ball skills like catching, throwing, and hitting.

Description: We have been participating in a tennis programme with Big John (John Salisbury) from Tennis Manawatu. He has taught us some tennis skills that help with controlling and hitting the ball
Why? To reflect on how we are going with the tennis skills we have learnt. We will share this during our Student Led Conference.
When? Week 8
Who? The World

Task: complete the rubric with targets to show your reflection. Make a comment to the questions below?

Evaluation:
  1. What are you most proud of and why? I am proud of how I participate and learn from tennis.

  1. What challenged you the most and Why? Cutting the cheese an exercise we had to do was hard because we had to use the edge of the racquet to bounce the ball and it kept slipping.

  1. Next time, what is a goal you can work towards? To get everything polished up a bit. And get it right.

Buddy comment: Well you have done really well you only have to work on a few things and your done keep up the great work. Aim to complete those things next term. Grace.S

Spelling

In class each week we do a spelling activity to help us learn our spelling words for the week.

Task: Write sentences to with our spelling words in it.

WALT: To create creative sentences.

Angry!!!!!

In class our task was to create a page in our writers note book about things that make us angry.

To do this we had to think of things and experiences that really get under your skin.

I think that a bit more detail would make it clearer.

I think I made it rather appealing to look at though.

WALT: Collect ideas and experiences.

I think that I did a ok job I could work on making the pic better.

Writing sample

WALT: inform

DESCRIPTION: Write an explanation about something you have learned about energy.

What? We are publishing a piece of writing.
Why?, To share on our blog and during our Student Led Conference.
When? Week 6

  1. Description In class we are writing about energy. We have also been learning the terms of PEELS Point Evidence Explanation Link Style.

  2. Evaluation I think that I did an ok job on my writing I think that a better ending would be what I need to improve on.

  3. Feedback/feedforward

state the main point in the first part of a each new paragraph

You have tried to start with a point to clue the reader into each paragraph. these are clear.
include evidence (facts, experiments etc) to support my main point

You have included great examples (evidence) that the reader can relate to. Well done.
explain the evidence and how it proves my main point

You have persevered to try to explain how/why your example proves your point - this is really tricky, well done.
Practise writing a linking sentence to my next paragraph

I can see that you have tried to link between ideas and some paragraphs. This is hard to do!
infuse style: topic-specifc vocab, second/third person, present tense, transition words

Great style, you have used great transition words.

Energy is everything in your food like a car, a pan, a fire, you name it - it has it!

Potential energy is stored energy. If you hold a ball up in the air, you are giving it the potential to drop. It is also forcing against gravity.  For something to be potential it must be getting ready to fall. Like a pen sitting on a table is doing nothing But if it is on the edge it has the potential  to fall. For example if you look at Newtons Cradle when you lift one of the balls you are giving it potential energy which is stored energy. So this shows you how potential energy energy works.

Kinetic is when an object is moving. For something to be kinetic it must be moving. Therefore if you drop a ball it would be kinetic because it would be moving. You can see the energy because you can see the balls moving on Newtons Cradle. The energy is travelling through all the balls creating energy and momentum.

One day I was walking down the footpath. It was boiling hot. I had also just managed to catch a fever and my mum had said that my temperature was rather high. The sun just made me feel worse. As I walked further down the path a big tree provide some shade. I stepped in. My body went cold. I stepped back out into the sun, before long I was hot again. Because there is no barrier between me and the sun so it hits me.  I remembered my high temperature. I wonder if it was related to that as well?

So my question is are heat and temperature the same? Well, no. Heat is a type of gas, while temperature is what we use to measure it. Temperature can measure not only hot but cold as well. Therefore it has more super powers than heat.

For example if you had cold water and you put your finger in it your finger would try get to the same temperature as the water. If you put the other one in hot water you can see how it will start to numb it. Then put them both in room temperature water.

This is the same with the shade. My body tried to get to the same temperature as the cool shady place but then tried to get to the heat of the sun. It is called radiation when the sun hits you though waves. I also asked if the heat was the same as my temperature but we all have a body temperature so this is where the english language is wrong!

So therefore heat and temperature are NOT the same whatsoever!

The End

Integrity sample

Task:
Create your own short movie about integrity - Work in 3 or 4’s
In your video you need to:
- Show an example of Integrity

You will be assessing yourself on these criteria:
What makes a good video: (Please Highlight Yellow for can, Pink for need to work on):
- conveys a clear message
- clear voices
- different camera angles
- Still camera skills
- mute background noise
- mixture of still and moving images
- background distractions
- music

Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. In our video it shows you how to not show integrity and how to show integrity. It also show the difference between then we do not feel good when we do the wrong thing but when we are honest it feels great!

Self evaluation:
What are you proud of? What do you need to work on? I think we did a good job on using clear voices because we muted the background and re recored over top. I could work on moving the camera to a different angle so that it looked better.

Peer Feedback/feedforward: Great integrity video Bella! I like the way you did a voice over to make you voices clearer. Next time you could add a bit more information on the description of the task.

Science sample

WALT: show our understanding of how energy works.

DESCRIPTION: Each week we have been learning about a different type of energy.  For example, States of Matter, Kinetic and Potential, Radiation, Conduction and Convection.

SC:

Gathering Data
I can gather information using my 5 senses
I can gather information to make a prediction
I can use my information to draw conclusions
I can share my findings using evidence I have gathered

Task: Make a video (no longer than 30 seconds) about on example of
energy. i.e. States of matter, Potential and Kinetic energy, Newtons Cradle or forms of energy like Radiation, Convection, Conduction.

What makes a good poster:
- clear writing
- detail
- images
- interactive

Evaluation: I think I did well at putting detail into it but we do need to work on clearer writing we had it in messy vivid and small writing.

Feedback/Feed Forward:  i can't really read the writing very well in the pictures but i like the colour and it is very creative.well done. Bella M

Writers note book

We had to do a naughty post. In this post it had to have a story of what you or others have done that is naughty.  This is our weekly notebook task. I  think I did a good job but could have but more detail in if I had more time.

WALT: Collect ideas and experiences.

Spelling

In class we have had weekly spelling tasks. This week we did one on mnemonics. A mnemonic is a sentence for a word to help you learn your spelling words.

What? We are making a literacy sample.
Why? To show a strategy to help us learn our spelling words, to share during our Student Led Conference.

WALT: Rote Learn

Task: Make a mnemonic to help us learn our spelling words as a memory aid.

Description: A mnemonic is a way of remembering your spelling words. You take each letter of your spelling word and make a sentence using each letter as the start of a new word.

FOUL

Fluffy otters use lime.

ICY

Isaac come you!

Evaluation: I think that I did well with the lay out. But I think that I could work on creating sentences that make more sense.

Peer comment: Great mnemonics Bella! Your mnemonics are very creative! Maybe next time you could make them a tiny bit more clear. Ana
