Writing sample

Description:
This term my focus in writing has been complex sentences we created a story based on the video (Shown below) of the mouse for sale. After we have finished the story we colored the complex sentences red.

Big Idea:
A complex sentence is a sentence with a dependent clause and an independent clause or a simple sentence.  The independent clause can stand on it's own but the dependent can not so you have to add it to the start or end of the independent clause like this.  Pushing it open, I stepped inside the old door
The green is the independent clause the red is the dependent clause.

Feedback and feedforward: Great job Bellso! I like the way you wrote it from two points of view. Next time you could work on your spelling. Ana

Evaluation:
I think that I did a god job with the layout of my story if I had more time I would edit it more and make sure that the two points of views are not confusing.

OK Disgust do you have ant messages for all the people that use your name in their writing?

Yes, Use my name only for it's meaning make sure it makes sense and make it interesting. Never use those stuck up words more than us.

Triangles

Description: We have been learning about Geometry for Maths for the past few weeks. We looked at all the different types of shapes and in particular triangles. We have learnt that there are 4 different types of triangles and we created something to share our understanding about each of them.

Big idea:

Sides Angles

Scalene = 0 0

Isosceles = 2 2

Equilateral = 3 3

Right angle = 0 1: 90˚

My video: Here is the video I created with Georgia. We hope you learn from it!

Evaluation: I think that we did a great job at understanding the triangles and there sides and angles.
Next time I would add a bit more detail but other than that I think that we did a great job.

Feedback and feedforward: I love the way you present the different triangles. Maybe next time you could make your drawings a bit bigger. Ana

Marae goals

Description:
Tomorrow we are going to the Marae and we decide to make some goals for ourselves.

Do all of my jobs to the best of my ability.

Make sure that I am focused and use expression while telling my story at storytelling time.

Lines of symmetry

Purpose: To find a line of symmetry in every letter of the alphabet!

Description: We found out that 15 upper case letters had lines of symmetry and only 8 lowercase! here is our working out.

Storytelling

Purpose: create a story to share orally
Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7.

Big idea: I think that I could add a bit more detail in my drawings so that I know what is actually happening in the pictures to make the story similar.

I think that next time I could use more actions and capture the audience a bit more. Other than that I think that I did a rather good job and I made sure that I put myself in the pit.

My Reading Goal

Description: We did a star test last week. We did this test to help us find our reading goal.

After going back through my test I have decided that my goal for this term it to...

Make sure that I am jotting down the words that I don't know into a notebook so that I can come back to then later. I need to do this because often I just carry on. This is a goal that I will most likely carry on for a year because if I stop after this term the same thing will happen again so I will make this goal an everyday thing and carry on with other goals.

Disgusting food

Purpose: Describe using our seances.

Description: We made stories about a digesting food we have had to eat to please someone or to get pudding.  The aim of this was to get us to be creative and come up with describing words to show the audience how bad this food was.

Task: A time I had to pretend I liked a particular food.

I saw the dark green skin all wrinkled and bumpy. The mushy rundown texture of the insides of this putrid veggie. It's rubbery green skin is as slippery as a waterside along with the slimy contents.
Slowly I slice through the middle of the vegetable and I nearly faint after one sniff of this bazaar aroma.
Reluctantly I place the half in my mouth and I am shocked! It was putrid, disgusting I shuddered swallowing it fast before drinking bucket loads of water to push it down.

Swimming goals

Description:
This term we have been starting swimming. The reason for this is we have swimming sports an event we have every year where all the kids do races and fun swimming things to show off their skills.
To prepare for this we have taken a video of ourselves with a buddy and watched it back so we can see what we are doing ok and what we need to work on.

Here are my three videos.

Big idea:
My goal is to work on my body position during backstroke mainly the arms. I can do this by lifting my hips so that my body is flat across the water. I would like to achieve this by school swimming sports so that I can set my next goal for the rest of the term.

Date: 13/3/15
Evaluation:
I think that I have really focused on my goal this term and my backstroke is a lot better.
My hips are lying flat with the water and by head is not lifted above the water. As a result my body moves through the water faster and glides better. I think that I have been really time sensitive with my goal and I have completed it within the time limit I had set for myself.

Maths test

Description:We had to do a stage 4 and 5 math test so we could find our starting point for maths.
I found out that most of the questions on my page weren't completed because of time.
I need to work on my knowledge.

Purpose: To find out what stage we will start on for maths.

Area of maths: Maths knowledge.

My test: (Below)

My goal is stage 5 how many.

I need to be able to recognize the same questions but turned around, as well as how many 10's 2's and 5's in a number. I would like to prove these by the end of next week so I can start my next goal.
I know that I can achieve this because I can now recognize where  two questions are the same.
I know I am nearly ready because I need to be able to do it in 3 seconds and I am not far off that.

Childhood Writing

Purpose: To share memories about my childhood.

Description: We wrote a story the uses Remember to start every paragraph. I tried to use a show not tell strategy to enhance my writing. Here it is.

Remember lining up behind the worn white line. The breeze cutting through our thin t-shirts. "Go" the gun fired and we set off giggling as we tripped over our own feet in the mad rush to the finish line.

Remember running past the finish line, collapsing before picking ourselves back up again prepared and fitter ready for the next activity.

That was my first race.

Pangam

Today we had to make some pangrams. Pangrams are a sentence that has all letters of the alphabet in it.
Our task today was to create our own using this famous example The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

Our second goal is to beat the record of 32 letters that  The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog has.

I think that we did rather well at creating one here it is...

Monkeys can eat mosquitos while playing the xylophone dumbly saying verbs. It has 61 letters I think that we did rather well.
